Circles of Christ is a Covenant Partnership Agreement between Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Fort Worth

PURPOSE 

To amplify our love of God and our love of neighbor (Matthew 22.34-40) through a shared partnership of worship, service, fellowship and education.

SHARED OBJECTIVES

  1. Unite spiritually and culturally and celebrate the richness of our diversity  
  2. Share our experiences and deepen our faith  
  3. Participate in social activism/advocacy and ministries of Christian compassion and love 
  4. Learn, explore, and respect our commonalities and differences 
  5. Engage all generations of our congregations in our partnership and increase awareness of the critical issues in our community 

SHARED HOPE 

Our hope is that through this partnership we will build and maintain mutual relationships that strengthen our faith and witness to our community the love, peace, reconciliation, and justice of our Lord. We partner together both by inviting one another to share in existing ministries of our congregations AND through new engagements specifically designed to enhance and deepen our dialogue about racial injustices and shared solidarity. We covenant to have opportunities for engagement at least monthly and have monthly steering committee meetings to enrich our partnership.  

   

HISTORY

Over 100 people participated in The City of Fort Worth’s Human Relations Commission screening of the PBS highly-acclaimed three-part series: Race – The Power of an Illusion and the film American Denial in the late spring and summer of 2019 in partnership with Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. From these conversations, a covenant partnership was signed by both congregations and approved by our Session in the August of 2019. Since the inception of this partnership, called “Circles of Christ,” members of both congregations participated in many activities together including a Harambee Festival, a tour of the Gordon Parks exhibit at the Amon Carter, a tour at the Lenora Rolla Heritage Center Museum, the MLK Day of Service and watched the movie Just Mercy together in the theater. We had to cancel our intergenerational, interracial, interchurch Civil Rights Pilgrimage of the South due to COVID-19, but hope to reschedule for next year.
